Actress Denise Richards Criticized For Being Too Skinny

Skinny has always been in, in Hollywood. There is so much pressure for celebrities to be in the best shape possible. But, is there such a thing as being too skinny? Denise Richards has been catching a lot of flack for her thin appearance lately. Our friends over at US Magazine got the Skinny on the actress;

Denise Richards isn’t wasting away, despite rumors to the contrary. In recent weeks, the Twisted actress has been criticized for supposedly looking “painfully thin” and “extra skinny” by several media outlets, including The SunRadar OnlineThe Daily Mail and E! News. The 42-year-old mother of three defended her athletic build during the Radio Disney Music Awards in L.A. Apr. 27.

“I don’t know why lately I’ve been getting so much flack for it,” Richards told Extra. “I have a very healthy lifestyle and I’m busy.”

The Pilates devotee added, 

“What bothers me is I have three daughters. I’m such an advocate for health and fitness… In moderation, we eat ice cream all the time. I had grilled cheese before we got here!”

In fact, at Carbon Audio’s launch party for Zooka in West Hollywood on Aug. 3, 2012, Richards told Us Weekly her girls are healthy eaters by choice.

“They actually like to cut up fresh vegetables with ranch dressing on the side. That’s their favorite!” she shared. “They love helping. They like making salads because they like chopping things up and rinsing the lettuce. Nothing too fancy!”

Rihanna’s “Five Factor” Diet Plan

After seeing Rihanna strut her stuff, and hold her own during this years Victoria’s Secret fashion show, I think we all can admit she’s a singer with a top model figure to die for!

But her flawless figure wasn’t as easy to get as she may make it look. With all the party and bikini pictures she posts on her instagram, she doesn’t show all the hard work she puts in the gym with her personal trainer Harley Pasternak.

And it wasn’t just exercise alone that got her a model like figure. A specific diet that her trainer created called the  “five factor” diet is also responsible for keeping the singer in tip top shape.

A “five factor” meal plan consists of eating five small meals a day. Each meal contains five key ingredients which are protein, fiber, complex carbs, healthy fats, and a sugar free beverage.

Rihanna is allowed to have one cheat meal a week on this plan. Harley says allowing his clients to have one day to eat a meal of their choice helps them from bailing on their diet through out the week.

He revealed;

‘If you’re good all the time, you’re more likely to slip up and feel bad about your self. If you allow yourself to have a day where to eat anything you like, you’ll stay on track the other six days. That’s the secret to a great body and it keeps Rihanna happy,’

Fit Monday: Plus Size Model Anita Marshall Shares Her Inspiring Weight Loss Journey

Anita Marshall’s weight loss journey is definitely inspiration. After spotting a before-and-after photo of her floating around on Twitter, I just knew she would be perfect for our Fit Monday feature.

Ever since she was younger, Anita had dreams of becoming a model, however, those dreams were almost crushed when she auditioned for America’s Next Top Model and was told that she was too big to fit their modeling criteria.

Although it was a huge blow to her self-esteem, Anita decided that she was not going to let her weight hold her back from achieving her goals.

Weighing in at almost 300 lbs, she decided that it was time that she took control of her destiny and she found the motivation to start working out and eating healthy. Fast forward to three years later, and she has now lost the excess weight and is currently a professional plus-size model with a booming career (Take that ANTM!). Anita can now be seen on the cover of magazines, Macy’s ads and much more.

She recently shared on her Instagram:

Years ago I started a journey to be a happier me. I was miserable. I hated what I was. I was angry at the world and didn’t feel like I had a purpose. One day I woke up and told myself I would stop feeling sorry for myself. I realized if I didn’t take control of my health, I would die from either the diabetes or heart disease that runs in my family. ( I want) to continue this journey of a happier and healthier me.

We recently caught up with Anita, and she was nice enough to share with us her weight loss journey, as well as her current workout regimen and nutrition plan.

Dolvett & JoJo Team Up To Tone Your Legs

Of course you do, and who else is better to help you then the oh so easy on the eyes (minus his poor cast) Biggest Loser trainer Dolvett, and the petite singer with a big voice JoJo.

The duo teamed up with Self.com to show you a couple exercises that will firm up those hard to tighten places. Try these 4 exercises that you can do anywhere;

Rear Reshaper: Get down on all fours if you want to strengthen your glutes, quads and hamstrings in one exercise. Make a rotation with one leg bringing your knee to your elbow and rotating it in big circles. Say bye bye to big hips and hello to a firm butt with this move!

Picture 33Butt Lifter: Lay down flat on your back. Lift one leg all the way up point your toe to the ceiling, lift your butt and back off the ground and hold for three seconds and release down. Repeat the move 15 times to tighten your hamstrings and glutes.

Calf Carver: Balance challenge! Criss cross your fingers behind your neck. Then Raise one knee up while raising your opposite leg off the ground. Hold yourself in the elevated position for three seconds. Repeat for 15 reps working your calves and core.

Picture 37Twisting Toner: Lunge out into a forward position. Put your arms straight out side to side. Turn your upper body into your lunging knee, turn your trunk back to starting middle position. Then return back to your feet being together in a standing positio. Repeat the move switching alternate legs. This move will help you notice toned quads and abs.

Fallon’s Fit Tip: “Break” The Fast

That being said, I want to share with you some tips in between my celebrity fitness reports and interviews that will help you along your journey to achieve your health and fitness goals. The saying “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” does hold truth to it.

The word breakfast really says “break, fast”, as in “break the fast”. When you are sleeping 8-9 hours, your body is at rest, and does not consume any food. Basically, you are fasting while your sleeping, so when you wake you need to break the fast.

You should eat within 30 minutes to an hour of waking up to kick start your metabolism and be able to burn the most calories throughout the day.

Skipping breakfast will slow down your metabolism, and you will burn less calories, if your trying to lose weight this means it’s going to take you longer to achieve those fitness goals.

So next time you think your benefiting from skipping your first meal of the day because your calorie intake is less, know that it’s actually hurting you in the end.

Matt Damon Packs On The Muscle For Elysium

At 42 years old, Matt Damon is in the best shape of his life!

Thanks to his new role in an upcoming movie Elysium, a sci-fi action movie, Matt spent four hours a day working out to prep for it. He says of his character Max;

“We wanted [my character] to look a certain way so I had to keep up a workout regimen. I had to just literally go to the gym for, like, four hours a day. Which was kind of fun in its own way at my age, to be given an excuse to do that, because it’s not something you’d ever really do otherwise!”

Throughout the movie, his character Max is seen wearing an exoskeleton type of armor on his chest that is suppose to give him extra strength. Matt admits walking around wearing the exoskeleton wasn’t easy, he really had to up his core strength in order to not get hurt;

“It’s kind of like wearing one of those old Bo Jackson weight vests,. It’s really insidious trying to carry extra weight even if you’re in shape. You just really need a pretty strong core or you can get injured pretty easily, particularly at my age.”

 Damon also admitted the role required a whole lot running. Luckily for him, he was use to it, from engaging in lots of cardio for his first role in the Bourne series.
Elysium hits theaters in August.

Jennifer Hudson Talks About Her Weight Loss Journey

Jennifer Hudson has been flaunting her amazing figure on almost every Weight Watchers commercial, and after losing 80 pounds, I say strut your stuff!

She admits she still can’t believe her new body. She opens up about her weight loss journey in Lucky magazine, explaining how growing up she was unaware of her weight issue.

“The first time I was asked to lose weight (on American Idol), I was like, What? Where I come from, I was never considered particularly curvy”.

With the help of counting points, the key component used in the Weight Watchers weight loss plan, mixed with a consistent exercise regimen, Jennifer was able to lose weight, and keep it off for good.

A major priority for Jennifer right now is maintaining her weight, so she continues to count points because its flexible, and gives her the ability to still eat whatever she wants, but in more controlled moderations.

Her biggest challenge so far is self control;

“My son, he wants pizza, so okay, I make him a Margarita pizza, and then he doesn’t eat it, so I have some, and then that’s eight points..that gets tricky”.

The best part of losing weight she explains, is all the clothes she can now wear;

“With my new weight, it’s like I have room to play-It’s like I’m my own doll, dressing myself up. All of a sudden, a shirt can be a dress, you know”

Olympian Ryan Lochte’s Most Innovative Workouts

Olympian Ryan Lochte knows how to work.

I was able to catch up with the competitive swimmer and eleven time olympic medalist on the red carpet a couple months ago at the Hall Of Game Awards, and he told me he was going hard working out prepping for the next Olympics, but the videos below definitely prove it!

Nissan Innovation is a new endurance community that captures the most athletic and fit individuals, and put together a series of videos, showcasing them running, cycling and training during workouts.

The pictures and videos below show the world record holding swimmer Ryan Lochte with his Strength and Conditioning coach Matt Delancey demonstrating one of his workouts; Box Jumps.

To build speed and power, try this full-body plyometric move. It will build strength in your upper body, core, and legs. Keep your core tight as you do the move for 6 sets of 3 reps each, jumping up onto a box about 40 inches high (start lower and progress if you need to). You can add a medicine ball (30 to 40 pounds) to do medicine ball slams, for more of a challenge (slam the ball as you jump and then catch it). This adds “chaos” to the mix so you’ll continue to see gains.
