The Lopez Foundation hosted The Sixth Annual George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic this past Monday. In 2005, George received news that he would be getting a kidney transplant, which would not allow him to continue to play golf, one of his favorite all time hobbies.
After he received his transplant, he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, and that is when he decided to start this charity event. He states,
“I am thankful for the kidney transplant I received in 2005, which has allowed me to pursue my two passions – playing golf and giving back to others less fortunate. As we enter the fifth year of the new Foundation, we continue to improve the quality of life for many children and adults giving them the opportunity for a brighter future.”
Even though the weather was not ideal, celebrities of all sorts came to the Lakeside Golf Club in Toluca Lake to support the cause. Adam Levine and Sarah Hyland were in attendance as well as Sugar Ray Leonard and Roland Martin. For the past six years, George Lopez and his foundation have been hosting a golf tournament to raise money for the underprivileged.
His foundation’s statement reads, “Our mission is to create positive, permanent change for underprivileged children, adults, and military families confronting challenges in education and health, as well as increasing community awareness about kidney disease and organ donation”.
Not only did guests get a chance to play golf with George, they also received an array of gifts including a four-night stay at the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, a three-night stay in Anguilla, Curtis & Co. costumed watches made just for the event, and much more. Guests also enjoyed a buffet dinner following the golf tournament in addition to live entertainment.
Last year the money raised from the golf tournament sent 125 kids with kidney disease to a camp for a week in Lake Hughes. The Lopez Foundation has had a great deal of success and will continue to host this golf tournament for many years to come.
