Dr. OZ Dishes On What’s The Right Protein Bar For You

Protein bars can often-times be glorified candy bars, so beware! Some of them can pack as much sugar and saturated fat than your favorite candy.  Dr. Oz comes to the rescue, and shares his protein bar rules and which maybe the right one for you!

 

Here are the rules when deciding on which protein bar to eat;

  1.  10g Protein or mote. 
  2.  Less than 15g if sugar.
  3.  Less than 4g saturated fat.
  4.  Under 350 calories.

 

Some protein bars don’t even contain protein! and others have more than your daily servings of sugar for the day. Make sure you are looking at the nutrition labels before you take a bite.

Now,  depending on what your goals are will determine which protein bar is right for you. Dr. OZ gives his advice on which one is right for you with 3 categories; Weight loss, energy, or just a snack.

 

Weight Loss;

If you are looking to lose weight, you will need some fiber in your bar of choice, to help you stay full longer without taking in a lot of calories. grams of fiber or more, and if you are not regular going to the bathroom, this will definitely help you out.

Quest bar – coconut 17g of fiber.

FiberOne – chocolate peanut butter, 9g of fiber.

 

Energy;

Need a pick me up, or some energy before you go on your run, choose a protein bar that has 20g of carbs in it. Continue reading

Jessica Alba Loves Nachos… And Tequila!

Jessica Alba is looking hotter than ever promoting the newest installation of Sin City around the country.  Her most recent appearance was at Comic-Con revealing her go to indulgences.

So what does someone with a perfect body like Jessica splurge on, “I love nachos so much… and tequila!”, she told E! News.

Of course Jessica has to workout to maintain her looks, but her role in Sin City helped her stay in shape due to all the dancing she had to learn.

“Looking back now, my friends are like, ‘Your body was really good when you were dancing. You should do that more often!” Alba said.

 

[Recipe] Shake Up Your Breakfast With This Pina Colada Protein Shake

If you’re getting sick of that same bland & boring protein shake,  shake it up with this island inspired Pina Colada Protein Shake!

This protein shake packs lots of flavor and is less than 250 calories and has 16g of protein. Not only will it feed your muscles after a good workout, but it will also satisfy your sweet tooth.  Breakfast never tasted so good!

Try out my recipe below;

Pina Colada Protein Shake

  • 1 Scoop vanilla protein powder 
  • 1 pineapple ring
  • 1/2 small banana
  • 1/2 tbsp coconut flakes
  • 4-6 ounces of water 
  • 1/2 cup of ice

Add all ingredients in your blender. Blend until smooth and your mouth will think you are in the Bahamas!

*Tip: Freeze your bananas and you won’t have to add ice to your shake.  Also, you can substitute the water and add in pineapple juice or Almond milk. For whey protein options, I like Herbalife’s French Vanilla (low-calorie & great taste.)

Alyssa Milano Refuses To Step On Scale While Pregnant

Alyssa Milano steps on the cover of Fit Pregnancy‘s August issue looking fabulous while pregnant.  The actress is pregnant with her second child, saying “it is such a cool thing to experience.”

While some stars find it easy to be pregnant in the public eye,  Alyssa is one of them that finds it to be difficult.

“A female body is not made to look good in a bikini.  It’s made to give birth and have a baby and be a cozy companion for it afterward. And for my body, that meant putting on a lot of weight.”

Of course, being pregnant means eating more, but Alyssa chooses to go the healthy way and not indulge in junk food.

 “I didn’t indulge in fast food or junk food, so I knew it was a healthy weight. I just realized: This is what my body needs to do to have a healthy baby.”

She continued,

“We don’t get hungry when we’re pregnant for no reason. You’re making a skeletal system. You’re making organs. I refuse to look at the scale. I didn’t look at the scale with Milo until the day I gave birth. It’s funny, my file was open at my appointment yesterday and there was a big Post-it note that said, ‘She does not want to know her weight.'”

Chrissy Teigen Fired For Being “Too Fat”

It’s rare that you hear world-known models being fired for being overweight but that is exactly what happened to 28-year-old Chrissy Teigen.

The Sports Illustrated model revealed in an interview with DuJour that she was fired for being “too fat” from none other than Forever 21.

“I was actually fired from a job.  Forever 21, they booked me directly when I was much younger.  I showed up on set and they asked me if they could take a photo.  They shot that photo off to my agency, who then calls me as I’m sitting in the makeup chair, and they say, ‘You need to leave right now. They just said that you are fat and you need to come get your measurements taken.’ And I hate you, Forever 21. I hate you so much. Honestly you’re the worst.”

Chrissy even shared the horrible news on Twitter.  A fan tweeted her, “saw something on E news that Forever 21 fired you for being fat?”

John Legends soon to be wife replied, “yep they suck and I hate them.”

Wow… But doesn’t Forever21 sell all sizes, even a  plus size line?

Dwayne Johnson Reveals His #TeamHercules Diet Plan

Dwayne Johnsons aka The Rock reveals his team Hercules diet plan.

He recently had to get into the best shape of his life (you would’ve though he was already there) for the role of “Hercules” and he wanted to share with all his instagram followers what his intense diet regimen consisted of to get there.

The ordinary person would eat 3 meals a day, including a couple of snacks. but if you want to pack on some lean mean muscle you need you need to add a whole lot more to your meals.

The rock revealed he had to eat seven times a day, and it wasn’t including snack it was  seven meals a day. Each meal consisted of either chicken, fish, protein powder, and egg whites. Along with rice, potatoes or oatmeal for carbohydrates and broccoli or asparagus seems to be his veggie of choice.

Dwayne explained this was no fad diet. He had to commit to this particular food plan for 22 weeks. His 14 egg whites a day, and over 3 pounds of lean meat helped him really turn in to the  greek God Hercules.

Lauren Conrad Doesn’t Like Going To The Gym

It seems like all celebrities do what they can to stay in shape and have a thin frame.  I mean… have you ever heard of a celebrity who doesn’t hit up the gym?  Well if you haven’t, now you have.

The former Hills star Lauren Conrad revealed to People Magazine that she doesn’t hit up the gym; in fact, she doesn’t even like going to the gym.

“I’m not a huge fan of the gym, to be honest.  When I have to go to the gym and put an hour in, I’m just staring at the clock.”

Instead she prefers going outside in the fresh air,

“I just like getting out, like going on a hike, going on the kayaks, going for a run on the beach.”

Conrad is set to marry law student William Tell, but just because she is getting married, don’t expect her to go on some major diet.

“I really love food… I’m not good at dieting.  I try to make smart choices but eat a little bit less.”

Well, there’s no doubt that Conrad has a naturally fabulous body, and that will only benefit her for her fabulous wedding!

Tyra Banks Thinks Beauty Will Be Perceived Differently In The Future

Tyra Banks is no stranger when it comes to being  ridiculed by the press and media for her looks, but that has never kept her from saying how she really feels. In 2007, the 40-year-old gained 30-pounds after retiring from her model career.  Tyra spoke out about the backlash she was receiving from the media at that time and even joined the “Fat Fight Talk” Campaign, which helps women and men reduce self-damaging words to themselves.

In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, the retired model talked about her perception of beauty and how the general definition of it will change in the future.  She says;

“In general, I believe, traditional beauty will be less valuable – and more uniqueness will be heralded.  People will be vying for that cutting-edge, distinct look in the way that today celebs reach for baby names that defy convention.”

She specifically states 10 predictions she see’s happening in the future, and one of them is getting plastic surgery will be as easy as walking into a drugstore.  But instead of the “cookie-cutter” look people crave now-a-days, everyone will be begging for a more unique and individual look.

Another prediction she has is that:

“Global warming will threaten our crops so natural food will be scarce. Hourglass, curvy bodies will be the aspirational beauty standard, representing that those women have access to bounties of fulfilling yet healthy food, which means they are affluent.”

She also says that since beauty will be so easy to attain, there will be no more prejudice on looks, but rather on your socioeconomic standing, and that if you do not desire plastic surgery, physical attributes (ex. certain shaped eyebrows and contoured cheekbones), will be accessible by “beauty ingestibles” such as active waters.

Even though Tyra made her living through modeling, she believes that robots and aviators will take the place of models in the future to sell products.

“Models will be as relevant as a horse and buggy.”

Halle Berry Jokes About Her “Geriatric Pregnancy”

Halle Berry has been making her media rounds for her new television show “Extant”, about a female Astronaut who returns from a 12 month journey in space pregnant! Although this new sci-fi television series has a very interesting story line, everyone really wants to know about her new baby boy.

On Ellen’s couch, Halle  opened up about giving birth to her second baby Maceo , and what it was like giving birth at age 46. She joked that while in the hospital she got a glimpse of her medical chart and realized it said “geriatric pregnancy“.

She explained to Ellen;

“I didn’t think it was possible at my age…. I was, you know, on my way–this is probably way TMI–but I was really, you know, kind of pre-menopausal. So to have this happen was a huge.”

Halle went on to explain that this miracle pregnancy she believes was due to her daughter Nahla’s prayers asking God for a little brother or sister, “Only her prayers could have done this.”

“Two things that I swore I would never ever do again in life. I mean, I didn’t think it was possible to have another baby and I thought for sure I had a need never to get married again. So, I’ve learned never to say never,”

In July of 2013, Halle Berry wed her second husband French actor Olivier Martinez in a private ceremony.

Wondering what a geriatric pregnancy is, well it’s not a what it may sound like, it’s not your grandma having a baby. It’s when a woman who is 35 years old or older becomes pregnant. This was once an uncommon thing, but in today’s society 2 out of 10 pregnant women are now giving birth after the age of thirty.

Looking like a natural runner, Halle Berry was spotted getting some miles in while on set filming for Extant. Running may have been attributed to helping this actress get her pre-baby body back.  As far as her diet,  Halle has to stick to a strict high protein and low carb diet, avoiding sugary drinks due to her type 2 diabetes. The actress explained, she once passed out and was unconscious for a week due to her not taking care of her disease;

 

“One day, I simply passed out, and I didn’t wake up for seven days, which is obviously very serious.”

 

Wow!!! Now that’s serious. Happy you have it under control now Halle.

 

 

Kelly Rowland Is A Fit Mom-To-Be

Kelly Rowland, former member of the  famous girl group “Destiny’s Child”, is known for her vocals, but she is also known for her oh-so-amazing, to die for set of abs!

The Hollywood trainer Jeanette Jenkins and Kelly Rowland teamed up back in 2011 and created a killer workout dvd called “Sexy Abs with Kelly Rowland” that helped fans all over get in shape.

Fast forward to 2014,and a couple of workout dvd’s later,  the singer is still working out hard, and showing off her belly, but where her infamous abs once were, now holds a cute baby bump!

This mom-to-be isn’t using her pregnancy as an excuse to take some time away from the gym, instead she’s continuing that fit lifestyle she lived pre-baby on board.

From the looks of her instagram, Kelly seems to enjoy resistance training with bands to keep her tight, working on her balance using a bosu ball, and reducing stress and staying flexible with yoga.

Kelly’s trainer Jeanette Jenkins explains there are 7 major benefits of exercising during pregnancy;

1. Boost your energy

2. Helps you sleep better.

3. Reduces pregnancy discomfort. 

4. Helps you build strength to prepare for labor. 

5. Reduces stress/ Lifts your spirits.

It is rumored Kelly and her fiance Tim Witherspoon will be expecting their new bundle of joy in December of this year.

Fans are already speculating the sex of the baby, leaving comments on her social media pages saying that it looks like she may be having a boy according to how her belly is forming out to be. Whatever she has we hope it’s a healthy baby! Congrats Kelly!
