How you doin’ Wendy?
From the looks of it the New Jersey Talk Show Host is doing pretty well. She is turning 50 in just a few weeks and has lost over 30 lbs! Usually known for her opinions on all the latest celebrity gossip, Wendy is not one to bite her tongue. But in celebration of her upcoming birthday, she presses the pause button on the celeb talk, and dishes on some more serious matters; getting older and her desire to live a healthier lifestyle.
See what she had to say from an excerpt from Parades Mind your body column;
Wendy, how do you Mind Your Body with what you eat?
I turn 50 on July 18, and I feel fabulous. When I was 25, 50 seemed so old, but I wouldn’t trade 50 for 25, 35, or 45. Life is good! I lost 30 pounds in preparation for 50 and took two years to do it. I haven’t been this light on my feet since ninth grade. I’m making little changes in life and going to the gym consistently twice a week. I hate the gym, love food, eat a lot of protein, but don’t deny any food. Yesterday I had a big steak salad that was mouth-watering. Today, I started with eggs. For lunch I had steamed vegetables from last night’s Chinese food order. I’m obsessed with ranch dressing powder and I sprinkle it on eggs, hot popcorn, and those steamed vegetables. I’m also a calorie counter and take a lot of time shopping at the grocery store, reading labels.
What about your physical activity?
I do a one-hour session twice weekly that incorporates weights and Pilates. My goal at 50 is not to gain muscle, but raise heart rate. And I don’t want to slump as I get older.
What could you do better for yourself?
To add a third day of activity, I could walk in my beautiful neighborhood, but I don’t. I could also do better with my candy intake, but I’m like a kid. And it’s odd, because I’m not a dessert person really. But I like Jolly Ranchers, three or four of them at a time, and I like bubble gum when I could chew dainty Dentyne. I do brush my teeth twice a day.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about health so far?
It has to be to drink a lot of water, because it’s good for your body and makes your skin gorgeous. Your skin is the first thing people see. Always wash makeup off and moisturize, and you don’t need to spend $200 on a moisturizer. Good skin doesn’t have to be expensive!
Wendy is always keeping it real! Looking great girl!
