Fit With Fallon: Transforming the Mind & Body with Yoga

I remember the very first time I did yoga. I invited my friend to come with me to try it out. At the end of the hour class, the instructor dimmed the lights as we all laid in our pose of choice. I just laid on my back, I didn’t understand the concept of meditation, so I just prayed to God and relaxed. When I opened my eyes, I realized the class was over, the lights were on, my friend was gone,  and I guess I had fallen asleep. lol.

Since then, I realized I need more yoga in my life, not just for my body, but for the mind. The word yoga means “yoking together”. Yoga is a physical and mental spiritual practice or discipline that aims to transform the body & mind. Yoga occurs when the mind is “still”.

I like to compare my mind to a 5 lane highway, I have constant different thoughts going on in each lane.  When someone asks “what are you thinking?” And people respond with “nothing” I just can’t understand, I am always thinking. Racing thoughts often keep me awake at night. So falling asleep in my first yoga class helped me “still” my mind, which I so desperately was in need of.

Yoga has many elements to it. One element that we often associate yoga to is “Asana” which are the yoga poses.

These physical yoga poses are designed to help master the body and enhance the body’s functions. Yoga exercises help with creating strength and endurance, improving circulation and energy flow, expanding muscles and joints. It is also said to help “cleanse” the organs and other systems.

Yoga was created thousands of years ago from the need to help create a healthy body. When the body is stressed with tension, and disease, it is believed to get in the way of achieving inner peace.

Some physicians even prescribe yoga to patients as a complimenting intervention who suffer from; cancer, asthma, heart disease, depression and schizophrenia.

Even if you are in good health, I suggest trying yoga. A lot of local gyms that offer group classes will have a couple variations of yoga classes. If you have tried it before,  and it just didn’t do it for you, try a different form of yoga like Antigravity yoga, which looks like Circus Soleil, or even Bikram yoga where the room is heated like a sauna.

That being said, I headed to the beach this weekend to find some calmness and stillness of my own, and to work on some of my “Asana” moves. Check them out below;

Colin Farrell Hits Up A Yoga Class

Exclusive... Colin Farrell Works Up A Sweat At Yoga

While most guys prefer weights, you’ll find Colin Farrell hitting up numerous yoga classes.

The 38-year-old was seen leaving yoga classes in LA not once, not twice, but multiple times this week.

Back in 2013, Farrell told Access Hollywood why he prefers and loves yoga so much.

“It’s fun. [I] do it every day, as much as I can.  I love being in a class with students – 30 or 40 people all moving in unison.  It’s very easy to live where you remain in your head… and you’re concerned about various things and constantly contemplating and so on and so forth, so it takes you out of your head for a while and just puts you back into you body.”


Studies have shown that doing yoga or meditating for 30 minutes a day for 8 weeks can dramatically improve the physical framework of the brain. It actually helps increase the parts of your brain which involve memory and learning, and decreases other parts which are associated with anxiety and stress.


Being a hot celebrity in hollywood, sure could make one stressed out, we see why Colin wants to get his yoga on as much as he can. And if that’s how he also get his six-pack, I’m in!

Ellie Goulding Gets High, But Not Off What You Think!


In this month’s issue of Self Magazine, Ellie Goulding opens up about working out and how it helps her get through the day.  Most people do not realize that working out and going to the gym does more than just physically make you look good, it helps you mentally as well and Ellie has proof.

“My training is part of my lifeIt’s something I need to do every day, because it affects my mood, my fitness, even my mind-set on stage.”

Dancing to her fast pace music gives her a workout on stage, but she still stays active off the stage.  As for her favorite thing to do, yoga is her go to activity.

“I get the biggest high when I do yoga.  People don’t realize that there’s such an  incredible drug in life that doesn’t involve any substances.”

Wow Ellie.  We’re thinking you should become a therapist too!

If Ellie has learned anything, it’s choosing her priorities, “… one of them is to respect my body and to do as much as I can with it while I’m here.” 

We know why she wears crop tops in all her shows now… because she can!

Alec Baldwin’s Wife Hilaria Steps Out In Yoga Gear Days After Giving Birth To Baby

Actor Alec Baldwin’s wife Hilaria Baldwin is definitely taking her fitness very seriously!

Just five days after giving birth to her baby Carmen Gabriela, Hilaria took to the streets of New York getting back into the swing of things as a yoga instructor, wearing her yoga gear.

The 29-year-old new mom also tweeted:

“Laying on my belly is the most amazing luxury ever after not being able to do it for the past 9 months #SimplePleasures.”

Hilaria and Alec welcomed baby Carmen on Aug. 23rd.

Mrs. Baldwin is definitely a motivation, and we here at Fit With Fallon would like to congratulate Hilaria and Alec on their new bundle of joy.

“Sex and The City” Star Says Yoga Saved Her Life


What does Kim Cattrall, of “Sex and the City” fame, credit with “saving [her] life”? Something you’ve probably never heard of: “fizzy yoga.”

Properly known as physio-yoga or physiyoga, the regime combines yoga with physiotherapy in a one-on-one session that includes massage, yoga poses, physiotherapy adjustments, and meditative breathing. The 56-year-old actress told The Times of London that she was suffering from a sore right knee and “bruises bigger than a professional snowboarder” until the new yoga hybrid helped her to heal during her three-month stint performing in Tennessee Williams‘s “Sweet Bird of Youth” on the London stage.

“As I get older, I find that cardio is less important to me,” Cattrall said in the interview. “What I want to do more of is intense stretching.”

With a background in physical therapy yoga instruction, Diana Zotos is one of Cattrall’s physiyoga instructors based in New York City. She told Yahoo! Shine that “fizzy yoga” is about teaching someone yoga, one-on-one, with a knowledge base of physical therapy. Zotos evaluates clients and then creates a personalized plan to help them strengthen and align their bodies, whether or not they have an injury, by retraining and rebuilding muscles.

Although Zotos estimates you could burn anywhere from 300 to 600 calories an hour (at least double the rate of an average yoga class, though different classes vary) practicing the physiyoga, this workout isn’t about burning calories. Instead, she said, it’s about strengthening, alignment, and healing.

“It helps to awaken certain muscle groups,” said Zotos of the more holistic approach to healing and strengthening the body, which runs about $200 for an hourlong session. Her clients have included everyone from avid runners to yoga novices to people seeking relief from neck pain. “If someone pulls something or feels sore, I have a full tool box,” said Zotos.

She also helps correct clients’ posture and alignment using physiyoga, which strengthens deep core muscles. She described helping a writer who was unaware of how sitting all day at a desk was injuring his neck and shoulders. “Through stretching and strengthening, we changed his posture,” added Zotos.

Because you’re working one-on-one with someone, Zotos explained, it’s also safe. “It’s the safest form of yoga,” she said, reiterating the fact that instructors are trained in both physical therapy and yoga. “You’re not going to get hurt.” The customized yoga routine is hands-on and completely guided, she said.

So, it makes sense that combining physio-therapy and yoga could positively affect the body. Stephanie Creaturo, co-owner of Mala Yoga in Brooklyn, New York, and a yoga instructor, said these kinds of hybrids of yoga and corrective exercise have benefits in private sessions with clients. “Everyone’s body is so different,” she told Yahoo! Shine, “and yoga can really work for any body. It’s prehab instead of rehab.”

Shelly Prosko, a licensed physical therapist and yoga therapist, agrees. “It empowers my client to take an active approach to their health, instead of the passive ‘fix it’ approach.”

Both Prosko and Zotos said they’ve seen an uptick in the number of clients looking to try physiyoga recently, but in the case of someone with a hectic, stressful schedule, like Cattrall, any type of yoga could be beneficial. “Yoga incorporates a strong mental and meditative component, making it a great way to manage high-pressure lifestyle situations,” said Kimberly Dawn Neumann, a certified fitness instructor in New York City. “It’s very difficult to heal if you have excess cortisol coursing through your body, which happens in times of high stress. It’s truly a mind-body workout and can positively impact exercisers on levels that transcend just physical fitness.”

Pamela Anderson Practices Yoga


It seems that yoga has is very relaxing and popular among most celebrities, especially Pamela Anderson.

The 46-year-old former Baywatch star was in Hawaii on a family vacation practicing yoga outside of her hotel room.

Anderson also hit the beach in a two-piece, still looking good. Perhaps the yoga exercises have assisted in her maintaining her beach body!

The benefits of yoga can not only give you a sense of peace and calmness when doing so, like Anderson, but it can also help maintain a healthy weight.

So try some yoga if you want to maintain a great bod like Pammy!

Jennifer Aniston Is Using Yoga To Keep Her Focused For Wedding


Jennifer Aniston spoke at her yoga instructor Mandy Ingber’s new book launch, Yogalosophy: 28 Days to the Ultimate Mind-Body Makeover and told the world that yoga has helped her throughout life and that she credits it to her amazing looks and fabulous body. With all the hectic things going on in Jen’s life right now, her wedding has to be at the top of the list. She told E!,

“Yoga kinds helps you prepare for everything. Honestly it’s like meditation. It just allows anything that is coming at you throughout the day to be kind of doable.”

With that said, yoga is her stress reliever as she prepares for her upcoming wedding to Justin Theroux. Jen trains with Mandy at least three times a week and she thanks the yoga pro for her legs. She confessed,

“That was always my ‘Ugh’, my legs. That’s why I credit her for them – with yoga.”

But even though Aniston might have the most amazing body for a woman her age, she still has her cheat days.

“Cheat days for me are usually… It’s Mexican food… Maybe Italian pasta, but I think you always have to do it in moderation.”

Wow Jen, you even eat in moderation on your CHEAT days. Good for you!

Kate Middleton Prepares For A Healthy Birth

The Duchess of Cambridge is definitely trying to make giving birth as easy as possible!

The mom-to-be has taken control of the activities that she wants to take place when giving birth for her due date July 14th!

According to British tabloids, The Duchess is considering hypno-birthing, which assists in decreasing stress and pain during childbirth.

Grazia Mag says that she wants a natural birth, and wants to be in a more positive state of mind. She will also be using a birthing pool to keep relaxed.

Aside from the hypno-birthing, Kate has been swimming and doing Prenatal yoga to keep calm and ready for the Royal baby’s arrival.

Yoga has helped The Duchess with any anxiety and stress for being a first time mother, and the deep-breathing techniques used will help with the pain during labor.

The sex of the baby is unknown at this time, even for Will and Kate.

A special announcement will be made public by a note being placed on the Buckingham Palace gates.

Gisele Bundchen Gets Yoga Savy!


It is pretty obvious that Gisele Bundchen has one of the most amazing bodies out there, but a picture she posted on Instragram Wednesday morning confirms that she still has to work for it! Gisele posted a picture doing yoga with her seven-month-old daughter Vivan Lake Brady with the caption,

This is not the first time Gisele has posted a picture of her doing yoga on Instagram. Back in May, she posted a picture of her and a friend doing yoga with the caption,

“A beautiful way to start the morning practicing with my friend Cristina Kalyani Paes.”

After giving birth in 2009 to her son Benjamin, Gisele told Vogue,

“I did kung fu up until two weeks before Benjamin was born, and yoga three days a week”

Hayden Panettiere admitted to Women’s Health that she works out by taking the stairs. She always walks 12 flights of stairs, and we can admit that the stairs is giving that body a boost!

Fisher told Fitness Mag: “When you’re really focused on your breathing, you’re able to clear your head, and all the worries of everyday life go out the window.
